High-End Design Project for Powerscourt Distillery
Spectac International has been appointed to develop and finalise the design of the latest high-profile Distillery and Visitor Centre to be built in Ireland, at the Powerscourt Estate.
Ultimately the entire project will involve a spend of over €10 million and it was Spectac International’s proven design expertise specifically for distilleries that helped secure the business. This win also cements Spectac International as the definitive supplier to distilleries in development and it highlights the fact that the business has now transformed itself from a local fabricator of distilling vessels to a leading design house in Ireland for new distilleries and existing distilleries looking to expand their capacity.
Powerscourt Craft Distillery and Visitors Centre
The new distillery is planning to have a peak capacity of over one million bottles of whisky a year, with traditional techniques being used for the distilling process, barley being harvested from local fields and water sourced from the well at the Estate. Promoters Gerry Ginty and Ashley Gardiner are working in partnership with the Powerscourt Estate and the whiskey to be produced will be aimed at the top end of the market. According to Bord Bia, Irish whiskey sales are likely to increase four-fold in the coming years so it may well be a shrewd move for those involved to access that market.
Spectac International’s Distillery Expertise
It should come as no surprise that Spectac International has secured this business, given its reputation in the drinks industry. Over the last few years, the company has supplied design and fabrication services to a number of global and local companies including Tullamore Dew, Teelings Whiskey Distillery, Rye Rivery Brewery and many more. There was significant press coverage around the Teelings Distillery project which was also the subject of a fascinating documentary that went out on TV3 earlier in the year. The positive feedback from the Teeling family no doubt helped secure this design project for Spectac International. In fact in that instance Spectac not only designed the distillery, it also manufactured the distilling vessels, process pipework and other equipment, including the integrated PLC controls and installation/commissioning of the the entre facility – as a complete automated manufacturing system – see the Teelings Distillery case study. There are similarities in the projects as the Powerscourt Distillery will also have its own Visitors Centre – Powerscourt Estate and Gardens already attracts over 500,000 visitors so it’s a great fit.
